Week 2! What another amazing, hard-working week by the entire class. We reviewed 2-digit, and 3-digit addition and subtraction. The students showed their amazing skills and worked hard on the review each day! They even realized that maybe a little practice on their basic addition and subtraction skills would make the problem solving easier.
The students also learned about “real vs fake” reading and have been practicing the difference between the two. We had our library orientation and were able to check-out our first 3 books for the year. We talked about what makes a good book and ensuring that we have some good choices for our daily reading. Library day is every Tuesday @ 11:00-11:15. Next Wednesday we will go to the computer lab and take our first Istation reading assessment. This will allow the students to work at and develop their own reading skills where they are in reading. Be watching for a letter to come home about their Istation scores and being able to use the program at home.
My favorite work of the week was working on Habit 1: Being Proactive. The students took charge and created our own class mission. I think it rocks! Here it is:
- Mrs. Hidalgo’s Husky Heroes listen and make wise choices. We synergize and put first things first. Together, we learn and lead to achieve our goals.
I am excited to work on Habit 2 next week, Begin with the End in Mind. We will be focusing on goal setting so be sure to talk to your students about goals they may want to set for academic and personal achievement.
Here are a few other highlights for the upcoming week:
- September 5th- Labor Day Holiday
- September 8th-9th Grandparent’s Day Luncheon
- We still need you:
- Honey Creek Station Volunteers- Mandatory Training, Sept. 14th or 17th from 9:30-12:30. Please contact your child’s teacher if you are able to volunteer and help lead students through this fun-filled day. Thanks to all of you who have already volunteered your time. It is going to be a fun-filled day.
- Thank you to those who have already volunteered your time to be a station leader and also those who have shown interest in being a chaperone.
- Remember if you want to volunteer at all through the school year to go to the NEISD volunteer website, Volunteers , and fill out the information. It takes about a week to be cleared!
